See how you can create a stylish and creative home office
Working from home definitely offers the opportunity to enjoy essential comfort on an everyday basis. However, it also hides the danger of distractions, making us less productive. As long as we pinpoint all the advantages of working from home and take care to avoid the traps this luxury hides, we can really create a beautiful as well as functional space to work in, and at the same time, add to our house a wonderful, sophisticated style.
Before designing your office space, take a few minutes to ask yourself the following questions. Your answers will play a crucial role in your home office design:
- What kind of work will you be doing in that particular space?
- What equipment will you need?
- Will you be having meetings or meet clients there?
- Will you be making phone calls?
First step: initially you have to decide on the position of the desk for your home office. For example, you can choose a room you do not use very often. If you do not have a spare room, however, remember you don’t need a very large space to create a functional home office – you can always make an office space in your living room or even at the kitchen.
Extra tip: make sure to keep a balance between work and home life, by organizing your desk and keeping your work at the designated space, as well as papers and the items you use.
Second step: Create a space you love to work in. Choose a desk with a lot of storage space, or a shelf for your printer and/or phone that will be practical and won’t take up much space. Make sure your desk style matches the style of the rest of your furniture.
The same applies to your office chair. You don’t have to spend a fortune for a mainstream, rigid office chair. Consider going for a comfortable, ergonomic chair that will perfectly complement the rest of your furnishings.
Lighting is important, here, too. If you have the option of placing your desk near a window, do not hesitate at all. Natural light will fill you with energy and well-being! Do not forget to add a table lamp on your office, for complementary lighting on darker days and/or evenings.
Another large chapter that will drastically add to your space design is the color palette. Earthy tones, light greys and beiges are the most suitable colors for the walls of the room where you will be working in, as they will add sophisticated style without any distractions. If you would rather have some color, go for a large-scale painting or poster to decorate the wall in front of your desk.
Last but not least: add some plants to your space. They will instantly and totally update your space and will lift your mood every day!
